Customer Account Number Lookup

Trade customers know their account number. They frequently do not know which email address the account was set up with. This plugin bridges the two.

What it does

Every customer record gains an account number. On the storefront, a customer can enter that number and have their email address looked up, so they can get into their account without ringing you. In the admin, staff can find a customer by account number directly.

Why it matters for trade

In a business to business shop the account number is the shared reference. It is on the purchase order, on the statement, in the buyer's finance system and on the paperwork in the van. The email address, by contrast, belongs to whichever individual happened to register, who may well have left. Making the account number a first class way of finding an account removes a support call that a trade shop otherwise takes several times a week, and the failure message is explicit when a number is not found rather than leaving the customer guessing.
