The feed

The plugin generates a Google Merchant Centre feed straight from your catalogue at a URL you give to Google, protected by a feed access key. It can be produced as XML or as text/CSV. If you use per product sale pricing you need the XML format, because the CSV feed fails on a zero sale price column, and the plugin tells you so rather than leaving you to work it out from a Google error message.

Large catalogues

A feed of tens of thousands of products in one file will time out. The plugin supports splitting the feed across several files by page and per-page parameters in the URL, so a ten thousand product catalogue becomes two files of five thousand, scheduled to be fetched at slightly different times so your server is not asked to build both at once.

Product identifiers, done properly

Google wants one identifier from GTIN, ISBN, UPC or JAN, and which one is correct depends on where you sell. The plugin applies the rules for you: ISBN is always sent first if present; otherwise JAN if your store is in Japan, EAN in Europe, UPC in the USA; otherwise it falls back to the GTIN field. Getting this wrong is one of the most common reasons for a Merchant Centre account being suspended.

Per product control

• Exclude from Google feed, on the product's General tab, for lines you do not want advertised
• Designated as adult product, which Google requires you to declare
