Compress Store Images

The largest single page speed win available to most shops is smaller images. This does it automatically and leaves the pictures looking the same.

How it works

The plugin connects your store to the TinyPNG API using your own account key. New images are compressed as they are uploaded, and you choose whether that happens immediately or in the background, with a configurable number of images processed per page load so a bulk upload never blocks the admin.

Which images

CubeCart generates several resized copies of every image. You choose which of those sizes get compressed, and whether the original is compressed too, so you can be aggressive with the thumbnails your category pages load dozens of at a time and conservative with the source file you may want to re-crop later. The original can also be resized to a maximum width and height on upload, which stops a 6000 pixel camera file being stored at full size forever.

Metadata

Compression normally strips everything. Here you choose what survives: copyright information, creation date and time, and GPS location on JPEGs. If you licence your photography, that first option is not optional.

Bulk

A Bulk Optimization screen works through an existing catalogue, so a shop with ten years of uncompressed images gets the benefit without re-uploading anything.
